Dark Hedges painting – “Shadows and Tall Trees”
This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century, to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House.
The trees remain a magnificent sight two centuries later and have become one of the most photographed ‘natural’ phenomena in Northern Ireland. They have become even more of a tourist attraction since their use as a filming location in HBO’s epic series Game of Thrones, representing the King’s Road.
An acrylic painting, on deep stretched canvas, showing the avenue on a crisp sunny day at the transition of autumn into winter.
