Titanic Launch Day Painting – “Ladies who Launch”
Acrylic painting – 325mm x 210mm / 12¾ x 8¼ inches
Titanic launch day, Belfast, 31st May 1911. Against a background of cheers from the assembled crowd of 100,000 spectators, it took just 62 seconds for all 24,360 tons of Titanic’s great hull to slide from her building berth into the water of Belfast Harbour. Still incomplete at this stage of the construction, she was still just a large hull containing engines and boilers, with almost a year’s worth of fitting-out work still to be complated at Harland & Wolff’s deep water wharf.
