View of Antibes painting

This little painting is my interpretation of the view that inspired Claude Monet to create around 40 paintings of this part of of the Mediterranean coast. The artist visited Antibes on the Mediterranean Sea from January to April 1888 and on his return to Paris he staged an exhibition “Ten Marines from Antibes” from 10 of the paintings. All the exhibited works were purchased by Theo van Gogh, the art dealer brother of Vincent.

I have enjoyed layering exotic colours and creating an impression of a haze of heat in the air. After studying the art and design of this area for a previous commission I fell in love with the colours of the Mediterranean Cote D’Azure and I can see these colours beginning to filter into my paintings of locations closer to home!

Original Antibes painting in acrylic & oil pastel, measuring 5½ x 5½ inches.

The price of £88.00 includes a mount and complimentary postage.
