Exhibition Invitation!

I was so pleased to have been be invited to exhibit my Titanic paintings at at North Down Museum (formerly Bangor Heritage Centre) as this was the first place in Northern Ireland that I ever exhibited a painting! (It won second prize in the Percy French watercolour exhibition.)

I began a series of Titanic paintings back in 2002 depicting the building, launch and, in particular, the successful day of sea trials of the great White Star liner - honouring her Belfast beginnings.

I continue to celebrate the positive and optimistic period of Titanic's life and seek to reinforce awareness of the fact that she was a true maritime marvel and engineering masterpiece a century ago.

She was, is and always will be so much more than just the ship that sank!

NEW Book - I'm very excited to have three of my paintings incuded in a new book from the Guild of Railway Artists - "Emotions of Railway Art".
Emotions being the driving force when an artist puts brush to canvas and in this fifth fine art book by the Guild of Railway Artists, the artists have been given freedom to choose the railway themes that most fuel their imaginations.

The Limerick Grand Prix
On Sunday 4th September I was lucky enough to get a three lap run of the 'Round the Houses' circuit of the 1935 - 1938 Limerick Grand Prix in an MG P-type - thanks to Paul Macnaughton of AutoJumbler.ie. I also found time to display some new paintings of the original races and launch my latest Limerick Grand Prix paintings and greetings cards.

My Titanic painting "Passing Pickie" just made it on to the front cover of "CQD" the Journal of the Belfast Titanic Society.

And now for translations!

Pickie: a promenade area to the west of Bangor Bay, once famous for the outdoor swimming arena Pickie Pool (though that came after Titanic in the 1930s.)

CQD: introduced originally by The Marconi Company to express a state of danger or peril of the ship that sends it. Literally "CQ," signifying a general call, followed by "D," meaning distress. This was the Titanic's final distress call.

Ladies who Launch - Launching of Titanic Painting by Debra Wenlock Titanic bookmark - Debra Wenlock

It took just 62 seconds for Titanic's great hull to slide from her building berth into the water of Belfast Harbour, on 31st May 1911.

In the wake of this huge anniversary I'm launching my new Titanic bookmarks - as a small and handy reminder! Click here to see more.
