The original Sedan Chair of the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, which dates from the late 1780s. It was built in London by Holmes & Griffin, chair-maker to the king.
In the 17^th and 18^th centuries sedan chairs provided a ‘taxi service’ in most Irish and British cities. The sedan chair carried by two strong men allowed people to negotiate muddy streets without getting their clothes and shoes dirty.
